Like every time I share, I received more gifts than I left. All the students had wonderful questions and seemed determined to go on to rebuild their communities. I answered their questions, attempted to motivate, and perhaps inspired them all to work for a brighter future for everyone in Fresno, California, or wherever they find their life calling. *** Valley Teen Ranch www.valleyteenranch.org
I was the keynote speaker at Valley Teen Ranch's (VTR) Brighter Future annual dinner on March 8, 2008: I was also recognized by: California State Assembly, the Governor of California, local politicians, and our U.S. Congress person for my participation at the dinner and my courage for sharing my story. *** WHCC Leadership Conference
www.westhillscollege.com I was the keynote speaker at the first ever WHCC Leadership Conference on May 5, 2008. There was a terrific connection with the students. The afternoon went over time with Q&A, and culminated with a standing ovation from the ever inspiring group of community college students, staff and faculty. I wish I could have given them my own standing ovation back. What they overcame to get to where they were that afternoon was impressive! *** CSU Fresno, Cultural Heritage Institute March 25, 2008. I presented the documentary film to Fresno State students at a diversity conference, and followed with a presentation on what my story has to do with community economic development. I discussed and answered questions about the various roles Government, Business, and Social organizations (such as church & nonprofits) play in our communities. *** Los Angeles Unified School District School Mental Health Services Keynote speaker at the 7th Annual Best Practices in Counseling Resource Fair: "Ripples of Gratitude" I was the keynote, and I shared my story, as well as a short clip from the film.
